Another Rathole Radio is upon us. I played a wide range of music as always, sang a live tune, chatted to folks listening live and also launched the gig tickets for sale. You can buy them by clicking “gig tickets” on the menu at the top there, you don’t need to be Columbo to work it out. If you’re within range I hope you’ll come and join us for a great night at the end of April. It’s not to be missed.

  • 05:28 – Robin Grey – These DaysCC BY-NC-ND Licensed
  • 09:15 – PainDonor – Loneliness Of The Shot Down BomberCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Suggested by George De Bruin AKA SndChaser – I expected death metal from the name and album title “Hate Makes The World Go Around”
  • 16:02 – Words Of WisdomGeorge CarlinStuffLicense Unknown

Featuring a headline set from David Rovics and Attila The Stockbroker. You don’t wanna miss it!

  • 43:22 LIVE TRACK – I changed  my mind at the last minute and did a rendition of Billy Bragg’s “Waiting For The Great Leap Forward”, one of my all time favourite songs. It’s time for another Rathole Radio. Episode 19 this time, n-n-n-n-n-n-nineteen! Hope you enjoy it. There’s an eclectic mix of music as always, some waffing and a live performance from yours truly. Enjoy the show.

  • A correction. Last time the track by Frankie Machine was called “I didn’t understand it so I gave it a name”. Not whatever I said, doh!
  • 40:35 – Live Track – “It Ain’t Me Babe” – Bob Dylan. I fluffed some of the words but it came out pretty well in the end I think. Hope you enjoy my rendition of the tune.

Welcome to another Rathole Radio. This time I was joined live on the show by Ubuntu Community Manager Jono Bacon to talk about metal, cod pieces and more. I also played an eclectic mix of tracks, and I even ended up playing the same band twice because I couldn’t get the song right. I hope you enjoy the show and as always thoughts, comments or music suggestions are welcome. You can leave them here or send emails.

  • 00:00 – The Heavens – “If You’re Lost For Somewhere Else To Be” – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed
  • 16:04 – Interview – Jono Bacon talking about his Creative Commons metal project Severed Fifth. During the interview he also mentioned the book “Remix” by Lawrence Lessig. Note: Due to some routing errors on the mixer I lost the first minute of Jono’s interview where we discussed the weather in California. The joy of live broadcasts. You really didn’t miss anything. We join the interview as I asked Jono about how he got into music.
  • 48:14 – I Am Not Lefthanded – Lifelines (acoustic) – License Unknown – Suggested by Rico

The first Rathole Radio of the New Year. Welcome to 2010 everyone. A New Year, a new decade but the same eclectic collection of music, waffling and laughs. This time I share my usual eclectic collection of music, I also play a live song and do my usual amount of random waffling. Service as normal then. I hope you enjoy the show. Please leave comments and get in touch with thoughts. Always glad to hear them.

  • 17:48 – Sekshun 8 – Black Winged ButterflyCC BY-SA Licensed
  • 21:23 – Fresh Body Shop – SpacecatCC BY-NC-ND from the album Tasteless which you can find on Jamendo. Very NiN influenced, I like it.
  • 27:42 – TryadListenCC BY-SA – Title track from their album on Jamendo

Live Track: 34:53 -  “The Needle & The Damage Done” by Neil Young, a classic tune. Not sure what happened with the voting on this one but I suspect there was some foul play. Nevermind, it’s a great song and I hope you enjoy it.

  • 40:19 – Symphony Of Science – A Glorious Dawn (Remaster by Cherimoya Eihn) – License Unknown
  • 48:57 – Sonic Real Estate – Funky Munky – CC BY-SA Though the film samples probably copyright protected.

Suggestions: Thanks to Gene Ryan, Rob Connolly and legz_cfc (Via LO Forum) for their suggestions.

  • 59:10 – Carbon/Silicon – Make It Alright – CC BY-NC-SA – Mick Jones from The Clash, Tony James from Generation X, Leo “Eezykill” Williams from Dreadzone on bass and Dom Greensmith from Reef on Drums. Really interesting album.

I’m back with another Rathole Radio. This time there’s a heady mix of nerdcore, metal, classical, folk, hip hop, house, electronica and more. All brought to you with a healthy heap of wittering and rambling from me. You should be used to that by now. I also played a live song which you may not have heard before. I hope you enjoy it.

Vote for me at PodcastAwards.com please!!! Thank you everyone, I appreciate it :)

3 Strikes Petition. Please sign if you’re a UK resident or ex-pat and let’s stop the war on the web by large media corporations. Visit the rather excellent DontDisconnect.us

19:17 – Words Of WisdomBill Hicks – “The Suck Your Own Cock Bit” – Bill brings his usual off the wall view of the world to the subject of blow jobs. What a guy, sadly missed.

I talked about needing some help to get this website reorganized and sorted out. I’ll sort out a really cool reward/prize for you. Send any potential designs as images to the usual email address. Thank you!!

  • 40:06 – Most Hi-Fi – Action!License Unknown – Another one from SlamJamz.com. There was a problem with the playback here and most of the lyrics didn’t come through, I have no idea why. I’m very sorry. Go an download the original.
  • 43:24 – Frankie Machine – The Clue Is In The Question – License Unknown – from 1999’s Why Are You? EP.

47:44 – Live Acoustic Track – This time I played “Take Me Away” by Oasis, a little known b-side. They can be a bit annoying to some people as a band and I get that, the popular songs have been played to death, but this is a hidden gem. Many of their b-sides are and they’re well worth looking up. This performance wasn’t the best I’ve ever given so I apologise for that. My cold was still getting the better of me a little.

Rathole Live Event Anyone? I floated the idea of a live gig in Liverpool next year. April or May probably and I want to know how people feel about it. Leave a comment letting me know if you’d be up for it. We’ll get a nice venue somewhere, get some bands to play and we’ll have ourselves a bit of a party. Here are 3 good reasons: It’ll be the show’s 1st birthday, It’ll be my 30th birthday around then, and most importantly David Rovics will be in the country at that time and I could hopefully get him and Atilla The Stockbroker to play for us. Let me know your thoughts
