Apologies for the poorer sound quality than usual, this was because of the live setting.

Welcome to a very special edition of Rathole Radio. This time I performed and recorded the show live in the heart of Liverpool, at the old Rapid Hardware paint shop on Renshaw St to be precise. It’s not called the Nerve Centre and it was the location for our How Why DIY event.

  • 04:49 – Lloyds Garage – Suitcase – License Unknown
  • 07:43 – Piso – P.I.S.OCC NC Sampling
  • I presented AMPed number 244 if you want to check it out. There’s some cool music.
  • 34:40 – Live Track – My rendition of Billy Bragg’s classic anthem, “A New England”. The sound isn’t great and I apologise for that. I hope it doesn’t affect your enjoyment of the tune too much.
  • 37:54 – Baron Von Smith – FeetLicense Unknown – Many thanks to Patrick Dailey for digging through tons of songs from Songfight and sending them to me.
  • 42:18 – GregCoccettA – LeafCC BY-NC-SA Licensed

Thanks for the very generous donations to Mikko Nurminen, Neal Quincey and Evgeny Kuznetsov. It’s very much appreciated :)

A weekend camping trip to North Wales ended up lasting a day longer than planned and I only just arrived home in time for this show. Unprepared, tired and sun burnt I somehow managed to pull off another Rathole Radio. I enjoyed it a lot and everyone in the chatroom seemed to as well. Have a listen for yourself and see what you think.

I mentioned It’s A Frog’s Life podcast and also Liverpool Acoustic Spotlight

I got the gig details from Alexandra via email after the show. Here’s what she said “The show on Sept 11 is at PSALM Salon- PSALM stands for: Philadelphia Society for Art, Literature, and Music. Doors open at 7:30; concert starts at 8. Tickets are $16 in advance, 20 at the door. Their website is psalmsalon.com”.

  • 33:32 – LIVE TRACK – My rendition of “Hank To Hendrix” by Neil Young.
  • 38:27 – TriplexityAl GoreCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Thanks to Amy Hussey for the suggestion.

Rathole Radio time again folks, scream if you want to go faster… or something. Anyway, yes another show with an eclectic mix of music as always, a live performance of a rock & roll classic, and plenty of waffling on the side. I hope you enjoy it and don’t forget to send you emails or leave feedback right here on the site :)

  • 07:30 – Hank Williams – Ramblin’ ManLicense Unknown (I think it’s public domain by now and this is from Archive.org Open Source Audio section, but it doesn’t specify on the page.)
  • 10:21 – Hedgehog DilemaPlus Bas Que TerreCC BY-NC-ND
  • 50:52 LIVE TUNE – This time the winning song in the vote was “American Pie” by Don McLean. A pub sing along classic and a great tune to boot. Get a few drinks down them and anyone will be singing this I guarantee. So not to be left out I had a go too.

After missing the last live show in a fit of football-related depression I was back on form and back in front of the mic. This Rathole Radio was broadcast just after the World Cup final in which Spain won and Holland lost. I couldn’t blame our Dutch friends for not showing up afterwards. We had a great mixture of music and a live song featuring an outing for my Bob Dylan style harmonica neck brace. Try saying that when you’ve had a few drinks. I hope you enjoy the show.

  • 37: 34 – Live Track – The Unknown – “Jimmy Carter”. The first original tune by my band. I wrote this a few weeks ago. Got 2 or 3 more songs we’re gonna record and share with everyone soon.
  • 46:27 – Audio feedback from George AKA Snd_Chaser. Check out his own music show called Cerebral Mix.
  • Many thanks to Mikko Nurminen in Finland for his kind donation since the last show. If you want to help support the show and keep the show going you can donate through Paypal. No Paypal account needed just a credit or debit card.

Another Rathole Radio is upon us. I have to confess I didn’t broadcast this show live as I was out watching England V Germany in the World Cup. We were so comprehensively beaten in that game I’m glad I pre-recorded this. I wasn’t in much of a mood to do it after. Still, it’s a great show I think and I hope you all enjoy it. Don’t forget to leave comments and get in touch. Normal service will be resumed next time I promise.

It’s Rathole Radio time again, and despite being delayed by World Cup distractions it turned out to be a great show. I played my usual eclectic mix of music, chatted with all the good folks in the IRC channel, and also played a rendition of one of my favourite tunes. I hope you enjoy the episode.

Live Track: 41:30 – My rendition of “And It Stoned Me” by Van Morrison. It won the song vote by a long way.

I mentioned that I’ll be attending the next Liverpool Acoustic Live gig on Friday June 25th. It should be a good night and I encourage you to join us if you’re in travelling distance of Liverpool. I’m not playing just watching but please come and say hello.

It’s time for another Rathole Radio. This time I played my usual mix of eclectic styles and people said it was a “more relaxed” show, until I got to the thrash metal at the end of the show that is muwhahaha. I also played a live version of one of my favourite blues song, complete with Bee Gees falsetto vocals in parts, listen out for that. I hope you enjoy the show.

I saw the Sugar Hill Gang in Liverpool this week, they were incredible. They are mean musicians as well which I never knew. Respect! Also saw a really good local ska/rap ensemble called The Elementals. Will try to track them down and get them on the show in future.

Rathole Radio is 1 year old! The first show was posted on May 31st 2009. We’ve come along way, at least I don’t say “oh… that song ended abruptly” after every tune now, only some :D

  • 46:58 – LIVE TRACK – My version of a blues tune called “Lonely Stranger” by Robert Cray and Eric Clapton. I hope you enjoy it.

The first regular Rathole Radio in a month with the gig and everything else going on. It was good to be back in the saddle. I played an eclectic mix of music as always, chatted with people listening live and probably said “erm” too much. Normal service was resumed. I also played an exclusive live song I wrote years ago but which hasn’t really been heard in public before. Hope you enjoy it! Don’t forget to leave comments on the website, send emails and get involved.

  • 46:08 – Live Track – One of my own songs. A pretty old one now but hopefully still good, it’s called “My Friend”. Don’t have a link for it I’m afraid as this is the only recording. I will try to make one and update you.
  • Emails – Ciarán emailed to suggest making a Rathole Radio compilation CD, I just wanted to remind everyone there already is a CD I made for Software Freedom Day last year. You can download it from this very site.

A very very special Rathole Radio this time as I present some of the action from the live gig in Liverpool on Friday April 30th. It was a great night and I’m really pleased so many people came along and joined us. We had great live music from the Reflect Harmony Group to open the event. Sadly I don’t have a recording of their set and I can only apologise for that. I will try to get them to do a session in future to make up for it. So next it was onto Attila The Stockbroker and David Rovics.

Next up I took the stage with my unnamed band. We asked the audience to suggest possible band names as we went along, we had varying success to that. Some of the names were very funny though. As this set consisted mainly of cover songs I don’t think I can put it under a CC license. It’s possibly illegal for me to share this with you but sod it, you only live once right ;) I hope you enjoy the set.

  • 20:08 – Jumping Jack Flash (Originally by the Rolling Stones)
  • 24:17 – Ziggy Stardust (Originally by David Bowie)
  • 27:34 – Psycho Killer (Originally by Talking Heads)
  • 32:14 – Down Under (Originally by Men At Work)
  • 36:00 – The Elephant In The Room written by (me) Dan Lynch CC-BY-SA Licensed
  • 40:10 – Waiting For The Great Leap Forward (Originally by Billy Bragg)
  • 45:05 – Redemption Song (Originally by Bob Marley)
  • 49:20 – State Of Love & Trust (Originally by Pearl Jam)

A BIG thank you to everyone who came to the gig and supported the event. As requested by some people on email I’ve added a Paypal donation link to the sidebar of the site, so if you want to help me cover costs you can do but there’s no obligation. A special thank you to Adrian, Andy, Jon, Anna and my mum for helping out on the night. I couldn’t have done it without them. I’ll be back with a more normal show very soon. Take care of yourselves.

It’s another Rathole Radio and the last one before the live gig. In this show I was joined by the first ever studio guest in the shape of Mr Adrian McEwen, who is building the audience robot for the gig. You could hear him tinkering in the background all through the show. I played a wide range of music as always and we had great fun.
