A very special edition of Rathole Radio this time as I was joined by one of my comedy heroes Alexei Sayle. People keep saying we look like twins but I don’t know about that. Check out the picture below and decide for yourself. I also played my usual eclectic mix of music and performed a live track. So put the kettle on, put your feet up and enjoy the music and chat.

  • 00:00 – The Banadana Splits – SometimesLicense Unknown
  • 05:54 – Al Duval – Where The Comet FallsCC BY-NC-SA Licensed
  • 09:57 – Broam – Wings Of The Fallen – CC BY-SA Licensed – Sent in by listener Bryan K. His own music. Good bit of electro I thought.
Me stood next to Alexei Sayle in the News From Nowhere book shop

Alexei Sayle and I in the book shop

21:23 – Special Guest: Alexei Sayle, comedian, writer, actor and all round top bloke.

Massive thanks to the lovely people at News From Nowhere, the radical book shop in Bold St for accommodating me. Go and visit them if you’re ever in Liverpool. Also thanks to my good friend Mr Neil Morrin for helping set this up at the last minute.

The music in the background is Cello Suite No 6 in D Major by Johan Sebastian Bach. This is an excerpt from a much longer performance you can download free from the Gardner Museum collection. It features Colin Carr on solo cello.

  • 38:12 – Billy BraggNever Buy The Sun – All Rights Reserved- A sentiment I can get behind. I took a chance with this and hoped Billy wouldn’t mind. I don’t think he will.

I also mentioned the MC Frontalot kickstarter project after a prompt from @heeed

  • 45:32 – Flearoy – Tiger Lily (with EMEFE horns) – All Rights Reserved – Heard this on AMPed and it was submitted by Rich Palmer of Audio Gumshoe.
  • 50:54 – LIVE TRACK –  My rendition of Is You Is by Louis Jordan. A jazz/blues classic that I think I’ve played on the show before but it seemed ok to sing it again.
  • 55:56 – Tet ProductionsYepaCC BY-SA Licensed – A bit of funky French house music.

  • 00:00 – Tab Benoit – Come And Get It – License Unknown – Heard this on the Roadhouse podcast number 324 and had to play it. Great tune. Check out Tab Benoit’s website and his new album Medicine.
  • 15:41 – Partition 36The Optic NerveCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I played a track called “I Love Penguins” by this artist some time ago and this is a great follow up. Lovely slice of industrial sounding electro. Thanks to GamerChick02 for the tip.
  • 21:38 – Derelict EarthThe Darkest SerenityCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A French metal band (from Grenoble), you don’t see many of those. They’ve obviously been listening to some early Metallica I think, and that’s no bad thing.
  • 43:14 – LIVE TUNE – Medicine Man by Dan Lynch – A tune I wrote some years ago and I have a feeling I might have played it live on the show before. I only realised after I’d done it. Well never mind, people seemed to enjoy it anyway. I’m hoping to soon record an album of tunes like this that have gotten away over the years.
  • 48:49 – ‘Til Dusk – One By One – License Unknown – Emailed to me by Chris from the band. They’re based in Southampton in the UK. This track is taken from their debut album Cold Lust which is released May 16th and you can find out more at

Guest next time! Wayne Mayers AKA Fit & The Conniptions.

  • 57:59 – Dual CoreMagnificent Seven (feat Nerdcore)All Rights Reserved- A big thanks to Mark Horsley for emailing this track to me. I’ve heard Dual Core a few times but not this track. It’s from the 2009 album Next Level which you can get on Bandcamp and other places and it features almost everyone in Nerdcore it seems. Beefy, MC Frontalot and more.
