So here it is, the second episode of the all new Rathole Radio. This was broadcast live and recorded last night, Sunday 14th of June at 9pm. I had a few technical hitches which flustered me a bit at times but I guess after the first show you’ve come to expect that. I’m still learning. I had great fun and the vote for the live track seemed to work well. It’s a mixed bag of styles. Here’s the tack listing all the vital info I know you want to know:

24:11 – Words Of Wisdom: Howard Marks –  He talks about Gee’s Linctus which is a cough medicine only avialable in chemists. Finding information on it was difficult but this is the best I could do

52:00 – Live Track: Men At Work – “Down Under” – This is the track people listening to the live show chose for me to play.

66:00 – News story: Fleet Foxes Say Piracy Has Helped Music

72:23 – The Binmen – “A Gene Pool Fit For The Queen” – CC BY-SA – I don’t have the exact license but as I used to be in a band with these guys, I know they won’t mind anyone using it as they want. I’ll take the blame. Dedicated to Nazi Nick Griffin, leader of the BNP!!!

Thanks to everyone who took part in the show and thanks for listening to the podcast. I really appreciate it. I’m not sure what will happen with the next live show because I’m away in Germany. I might just pre-record the show and release it as a podcast that week. Check back in 2 weeks to see what happens. I’m lining up a very interesting guest, so stay tuned. So, here it is, the first episode. I recorded this last night, Sunday 31st May 09, at 9pm UK time. It was a learning experience and trying to chat to people online at the same time is tough. You can hear a couple of moments when a song finished abruptly and nearly caught me out. I’m nothing if not professional… so that’s nothing then. I hope you enjoy this eclectic ride of music and waffling anyway. I also played a live acoustic tune which I’ll describe in more detail later. For now here’s all the information you need on the tracks I played:

Live Track: 33:55

The live track for this episode is “Nobody Knows You When You’re Down And Out” an old blues standard performed by me with my trusty acoustic guitar. I’d like to dedicate it to a friend of mine who sadly passed away not too long ago. A truly amazing blues and jazz singer in his own right, and a guy who taught me a hell of a lot – Ken Dickenson.

That’s if for this time, I hope you enjoyed my first attempt at this. I could certainly use some practice with mixing and presenting at the same time, but it’s early days. I could also do with learning not to say “errm” every other word. I’ll try and work on that.

In the excitement of recording and streaming my first show I neglecting to say this properly on air, if you have any suggestions for music or any other comments, please send them to me. Maybe you play music yourself, you’re in a band and would like to be on the show. That’s great. Send me a demo or whatever you have. I’m ALWAYS interested in new music. As long as I can play it on the show legally. If there’s someone you’d like me to interview or perhaps a song you’d like me to learn and play live, just send it in.

Please send your emails to: show AT ratholeradio DOT org

It just remains for me to say thank you very for taking the time to listen. I hope there was at least one new artist in the bunch you’ll be persuing, but not like a stalker, that wouldn’t be nice. I hope you’ll join me for another show in 2 weeks time. It’ll be Sunday June 14th at 9pm UK Time. You can get involved live and help me make the show, this all relies on listener input so please don’t be afraid to speak up. Details of how to listen to the live show are over on the live page.  I hope to see you there next time. Take care all

Dan
