It’s time once again for Rathole Radio, and on this show I played all Creative Commons tracks.

  • 06:43 – Hugo “Droopy” Contini – Sandu – CC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A French jazz sandwich made with jazz bread and served with jazz flavoured crisps. Did I mention it’s jazzy? I’ve played this guy before but he sure knows how to play that horn. From Rawbouce Records.
  • 10:38 – Gerador ZeroFor X In *.wav; doCC BY-SA Licensed – Great bit of electro I heard on CCHits Weekly Show. A Brazilian artist according to Jamendo. Very interesting track I thought. Love the dirty beat. Not sure about the programming joke in the title though.
  • 18:01 – Paul & StormThe Captain’s Wife’s LamentCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – From their 2007 album Gumbo Pants. They supported JC and I have to say this was pretty hilarious live. I didn’t know what to expect from these guys but they were very funny and Jon was crying with laughter for most of the show. You can buy the track on their website.
  • 20:25 – LarG ProductionsReaganCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A funky bit of hip hop from Jamendo. I like the political angle as well, you won’t be surprised but I’m not fan of Ronald Reagan or the bogus war on drugs. From Vancouver, Canada.
  • 26:18 – Bella RusePush OnCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Another great track I heard on CCHits. The singer’s style reminds me a little of Bjork as the song starts but it changes as it goes on. This is taken from the eponymously titled album on Jamendo. Not much artist info on there though. No link to eternal site, nationality or anything.
  • 30:00 – Indigo78They LiveCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – British artist from Wolverhampton, formerly the home of Linux podcasts. This is the opening track from The Autumn EP.
  • 39:56 – 20lb Sounds – Makes No Sense (Live At The Cavern Club) – CC BY-SA Licensed – This is taken from a video of our Cavern Club gig last month. A fairly new song you may not have heard before. It’s short but sweet. Enjoy!
  • 45:54 – Tenpenny JokeCarolineCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – Someone has been listening to Audioslave I think, but that’s no bad thing. I’ve played these Aussie rockers before, this track is from their album Ambush On All Sides.

Happy 50th Birthday To Larry Lessig!!! Founder Of Creative Commons. Some of his friends made a lip-sync video to “Once In A Lifetime” by Talking Heads – http://vimeo.com/24590277

  • 56:20 – Jonathan CoultonTom Cruise CrazyCC BY-NC Licensed – Talk about going to see the gig with Lucy and JonTheNiceGuy. Love this song. Surprised I haven’t played more JoCo on the show so far. A great CC musician doing well for himself and deservedly so.

  • 00:00 – Tab Benoit – Come And Get It – License Unknown – Heard this on the Roadhouse podcast number 324 and had to play it. Great tune. Check out Tab Benoit’s website and his new album Medicine.
  • 15:41 – Partition 36The Optic NerveCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – I played a track called “I Love Penguins” by this artist some time ago and this is a great follow up. Lovely slice of industrial sounding electro. Thanks to GamerChick02 for the tip.
  • 21:38 – Derelict EarthThe Darkest SerenityCC BY-NC-SA Licensed – A French metal band (from Grenoble), you don’t see many of those. They’ve obviously been listening to some early Metallica I think, and that’s no bad thing.
  • 43:14 – LIVE TUNE – Medicine Man by Dan Lynch – A tune I wrote some years ago and I have a feeling I might have played it live on the show before. I only realised after I’d done it. Well never mind, people seemed to enjoy it anyway. I’m hoping to soon record an album of tunes like this that have gotten away over the years.
  • 48:49 – ‘Til Dusk – One By One – License Unknown – Emailed to me by Chris from the band. They’re based in Southampton in the UK. This track is taken from their debut album Cold Lust which is released May 16th and you can find out more at www.tildusk.co.uk

Guest next time! Wayne Mayers AKA Fit & The Conniptions.

  • 57:59 – Dual CoreMagnificent Seven (feat Nerdcore)All Rights Reserved- A big thanks to Mark Horsley for emailing this track to me. I’ve heard Dual Core a few times but not this track. It’s from the 2009 album Next Level which you can get on Bandcamp and other places and it features almost everyone in Nerdcore it seems. Beefy, MC Frontalot and more.

What Others Are Saying

  1. Stephen June 20, 2011 at 4:05 pm

Hey Dan! Just thought I might help with some info about Bella Ruse, as I’ve become a big fan since finding their album on Jamendo last year.

They’re a group (not a person) from Minnesota, and their website is http://www.bellaruse.com. They recently put out an album called “Kuhzoo”, and not surprisingly features that instrument in a couple of tracks. They’ve been pretty successful lately and have released a couple of neat videos.

The biggest venue they played recently I believe was one of the Lillith Fair shows.

  2. Dan June 20, 2011 at 4:17 pm

@stephen – Thanks for the extra info. Luckily one of the listeners corrected me about this on the live show as well. It seems there’s loads of information about them online, it’s just not linked from Jamendo for some reason. I should have researched further though. Great band, look forward to investigating more of what they’ve done :)

  3. Stephen June 20, 2011 at 4:17 pm

And now I look foolish – I didn’t listen til the end before posting my comment 😛

  4. Dan June 20, 2011 at 4:18 pm

@stephen – Meh don’t worry about it, I’ve made looking foolish a full time job 😛

  5. Stephen June 20, 2011 at 4:20 pm

Cheers 😉 I really do recommend “Kuhzoo” though, I bought it off iTunes and I don’t think I’ve taken it off of my ipod for quite a while now. Good album to have in rotation!

  6. Dan June 20, 2011 at 4:24 pm

@stephen – Nice! I’ll have a listen to that album then. Thanks.
